Leadership and Community Service

Tikkun Olam (Repairing the World), suggests humanity’s shared responsibility to heal, repair and transform the world. The Jewish concept of Tikkun Olam underpins all that we do at SMMIS, and our Community Service programmes offer ongoing opportunities for our students to internalise this philosophy. At SMMIS all students are expected to complete a number of community service hours per Semester. We have a strong belief that students should take on leadership responsibilities from an early age. We have a strong Student Council and House System which gives opportunities for student voices to be heard, and for the students to make a difference in our community.

National Youth Achievement Award (NYAA)
‍In 2022 SMMIS launched the NYAA programme for our Secondary School students. The NYAA programme is designed to allow youth to engage themselves in the community and learn beyond what they do in the classroom. It equips the students with skills which will allow them to contribute back to the community, cultivate habits that will keep them mentally and physically healthy, as well as better appreciate nature. As part of their NYAA, the students work in groups to engage in 20 hours of service learning and to plan fundraising events to raise money to donate for their chosen charity.

When we relocated from New Zealand to Singapore, we carefully researched international schools, and SMMIS immediately stood out for its strong values, community-focused approach, and not-for-profit ethos. With four children in Grades 9, 8, 6 and 1, we wanted a school where each of them would feel seen and supported. The smaller school size made the transition much smoother, and every one of our children has settled in happily. We’ve been so impressed by the supportive teachers, the thoughtfully chosen IGCSE subjects, and the balance of academics, CCAs, and field trips that help them explore their interests and connect with the wider community. The facilities are excellent for the size of the school, and we love the inclusive way Jewish Education is presented, enriching students of all backgrounds. SMMIS has given our children a welcoming, nurturing environment, and as parents, we couldn’t be happier with the sense of care, belonging, and opportunity that the school provides.
